Typhokinesis
Typhokinesis is the ability to not only withstand, but manipulate smoke, smog, or smut as a tool. It can only alter air born gases that are direct effects of burning material (can not alter natural gases in the atmosphere). It’s been found in individuals who live in large cities and industrial communities, though a handful of cases have appeared within rural villages. Early Typhokinesis Psions learn how to adapt to the poisonous aftereffects of burning bi-product, while masters can not only create smoke from nothing, but control it as if it is a second limb. The Terran Alliance Federation’s P.I.K.E. program has confirmed that several of their Psions possess the rare ability, and have used it for various military endeavors.

Typhokinesis Materials: Any collection of airborne solid and liquid particulates and gases emitted when a material undergoes combustion, together with the quantity of air that is entrained or otherwise mixed into the mass. It is commonly an unwanted by-product of fires (including stoves, candles, oil lamps, and fireplaces), but may also be used for pest control (cf. fumigation), communication (smoke signals), defensive and offensive capabilities in the military (smoke-screen), cooking (smoked salmon), or smoking (tobacco, cannabis, etc.).

1D Environmental Tolerance, Gas: With this early ability, the Psion has learned how to breath in smokes and gases that would otherwise choke most oxygen breathing creatures. The Typhokinesis Psion’s biology finds a way to oxidize itself through the limited oxygen and carbon atoms within the smoke, smog, or other air born poisons. This does not work against other damaging effects beyond the toxic breathing hazard, such as acidic components or extreme heat temperatures for the smoke. Essentially, this gives the user the Special Ability: Atmospheric Tolerance, Gas.

2D Smoke Manipulation: With this ability, the Psion is able to control the area, shape, and location of existing smog, smut, or any other smog caused from burning materials. So long as the Psion is within line of site of the airborne material, he/she can control the direction and shape of the pollutant as if blowing it with a fan. Many Psions use this as an actual “smoke screen”, and block vision. Psions can also move the airborne material to cause nausea or breathing issues for any targets within their line of site. Once the smoke/smog/smut leaves the Psion’s line of site, they are no longer able to control it, and it typically floats upward, eventually dissipating.

3D Cleanse Area: With this ability, the Typhokinesis Psion can cause areas filled with smoke, smog, etc. to dissipate, evaporating into breathable oxygen. This ability can only be done in an area that the Psion can physically see, and becomes more difficult to cleanse depending on the size of the plume or cloud.

4D Create Smoke: By concentrating, the Psion can open his/her hands or mouth and emit smog, smog, or smut from nothing. The Psion must concentrate, and is limited to a certain amount of smoke that they can create per round. Once produced, this smog, smog, smut, is permanent, and does not go away when the user breaks concentration. The smog or smog is warm, but not enough to burn any living or dead tissue. While this ability can be useful, it can also prove dangerous to those around the Psion, harming friends or allies.

5D Share Tolerance: At this level, the Psion is able to not only make him/herself tolerant of smokes, smogs, and smut, but also anyone they desire. The character must be able to see the intended target(s), and concentrate intently. If successful, they can provide temporary tolerance to anyone in their line of site, allowing that target to breath poisonous smoke, smut, or smog. This does not protect the target from other damaging aspects of the smoke such as how hot it is or if it is acidic.

6D Asphyxiation: With this psionic ability, the user is able to create plumes of suffocating smoke around a target that causes them the inability to breath. So long as the Psion can see its target, they can create a thick, toxic cloud around them that not only makes them blind (see thick smoke penalties), but take damage. This ability takes great concentration per round.

7D Smut Messenger: This psionic talent allows the user to send messages through clouds of pollutant smut. The creator must talk into the cloud, and then focus on the intended target for this ability to work. Afterwards, the thick smut will travel (so long as it is an oxygen or gas environment) to the target if possible, at a speed equal to a human's walking speed (5 squares or 2mph). So long as the smoke can slip through cracks, ducts, or airways, it will continue to travel to its target until it delivers the message. Extremely windy conditions, such as hurricanes or tornados, dissipate the messenger immediately, but strong winds and fans do not.

8D Smog Spy: With this power, the Psion can send over or use nearby smoke, smog, or smut to spy on a specific target. The Psion must focus on a target, and either send over a cloud of pollution, or identify one that may already be near the target (such as burning torches, emissions from vehicles). The Psion must concentrate intently to complete this. Once a link between the Psion and the pollutant has been made, they can see and hear as if they were there themselves (using their own search or perception dice).

9D Pollutant Traveler: With this ability, the Psion can travel to any smoke, smog, or smut that they can see within an instant. The user must concentrate, and have line of site, instantly traveling to that point. This does not keep the user safe from any hazards the smoke may be near, such as heights, extreme heats or colds, etc. The user chooses the exact square they move to and within an action, arrives there. This is a very effective ability for combat or obstacles, but not a reliable source for stable travel.

10D Smoke Form: The Psion has mastered the ability of Typhokinesis to the point of becoming a pollutant bi-product themselves. By concentrating, the user shifts into black smoke. This gives the user the following special abilities while in Smoke Form.

*Gaseous (0 point advantage)
The character is made of a gaseous density and can easily bypass most physical obstacles. The character can slip through any barriers that still allow the intake of gas molecules (IE air vents, unsealed doors, etc.), but can not bypass through energy, electrified or air based seals. The character can not carry any object nor can they attempt any physical attack. A gaseous character needs only a meter sized area, in any shape, in order to travel without penalties.

*Silence (3 point advantage)
The character can move in complete silence. He/she gains +2 per rank to all sneak checks and a +1 per rank when attacking from behind (only when in gaseous form, not when in Exo-Skeleton)

Flight (6 points)
The character can fly due to their gaseous form. The character's flying rate equals his/her base move times the number of ranks (1). The flying/O-G skill is required to maneuver.

Range: Self

Rules: This power is not activated, nor sustained, it requires no action. Once a Psion has acquired this level of master of Typhokinesis he simply has the Special Ablity: Atmospheric Tolerance, Gas.

Rules:

Once this power is activated and for every round that it is sustained the Psion may move about the targeted smoke at a movement speed of 5. Moving the Smoke about is not an additional action, it is simply part of the action used to activate or sustain Smoke Manipulation. This ability does not otherwise alter the Smoke for better or worse, it simply moves it about at the whims of the Psion.

This ability can only be done in an area that the Psion can physically see, and becomes more difficult to cleanse depending on the size of the plume or cloud.

Difficulty: 10+ Scale of Area

Duration: Instant

Range: Line of Sight

Rules: When successfully used this ability dissipate harmful smoke and smog instantly, so long as there is someplace for such to go.

Example: A Psion could use this ability to instantly clear harmful smoke and smog from an outdoor battle field, but would be incapable of dissapating such from a small air tight enclosed environment such as inside a launched escaped pod traveling through space.

Duration: Instant

Range: Self

Rules: When used successfully the Psion immediately generates the desired amount of Smoke from their being. If used round after round, the newly generated smoke simply pushes last round's smoke farther away from the Psion creating a larger and larger area of Smoke filled air. Psions using this ability while wearing vacuum sealed space suits of armor simply fill their enclosed personal environments with Smoke.

Rules: This power grants targets the Special Ability: Atmospheric Tolerance, Gas so long as it is sustained by the Psion.

Note: Often the difference between a Psion's species and the species of his target matters for similar powers, such as many of the boons Vitakinisis can grant. Species has no effect on the difficulty because in the case of this power the Psion is not so much effecting the targets as much as he is willing the harmful smoke and smog to leave the targets unmolested.

30 when target is under open skies surrounded by clean air
25 when target is under open skies surrounded by unclean air
20 when target is within enclosed environment with clean air
15 when the target is within an enclosed environment with unclean air

Duration: Sustained

Range: Line of Sight

Rules:

Upon successful application of this power and every round in which it is sustained the Psion may inflict his Typhokinesis Dice Pool in Damage to the Target, this damage is resisted with Stamina. Traditional Armors do not aid in resisting this Choking Damage, though items like the Prometheus "Savior" do add 2D to the damage resistance roll of the target. Special Abilities such as Atmospheric Tolerance, Gas and Totally enclosed Environmental suits can render the wearer immune to the harmful effects of this armor.

-10 to the Difficulty if the Psion has met the target before
-5 to the Difficulty if the Psion only knows the general location of the Target
-5 to the Difficulty if the Psion has only second hand knowledge of the Target

Duration: Sustained

Range: Nearly Unlimited

Rules:

If the Psion successfully meets the Difficulty required to activate this power, the Smut Messenger will begin traveling towards the intended Target so long as the Psion sustains this ability. If the Psion fails to sustain this power the the Smut Messenger dissipates and the message is simply undelivered. Once the Message is Delivered or the Smut Messenger is destroyed the psion intuitively knows to stop sustaining the Power, though there is no indication as to if the deliver was successful or not.

NOTE: Message Length and Complexity as well as Delivery is up to the GM. Some Smut Messengers may appear as Smoky Ghosts who speak their message before vanishing, and others may deliver the message by leaving words or pictures drawn in soot upon otherwise clean walls.

Rules:

Once Activated and for every round that this power is Sustained the Psion uses the targeted area of Smoke an extension of his own senses, though the only Psionic Abilities the Psion may activate through this enhanced range of Perception are abilities from the Typhokinesis Skill.

Example: A Psion using this power upon the smoke filling a cave complex in which he is in will no longer suffer any visibility penalties from the smoke. Said Psion will also gain in Perception of everything within the smoke and smog as if every wisp of filth in the air was an extra set of his eyes and ears. A Psion could use this enhancement to the range of his senses to use Typhokinesis against any targets now made available, but could not use any other Psionic Ability the Psion may know.

+5 to the Difficulty if the Psion's destination square has pollutants, but less then Character Scale

Duration: Instant

Range: Line of Sight

Rules: When successfully used this ability instantly teleports the Psion from his Original Square to the Polluted Square he Targeted. It is impossible to use this ability to teleport through airless environments, and at least some level of smoke or pollutant must be present in the Psion's destination square for this power to work.
